Herstmonceux is a small and pictureque village in East Sussex. The moated Herstmonceux castle lay in ruins for nearly 150 years after it was largely demolished in 1777. Since 1948 the rebuilt castle has been the home of the Royal Greenwich Observatory. The grounds are open to the public during the summer months.
