The town of Walton-on-the-Naze in Essex lies on The Naze which juts into the North Sea south of Harwich.
The Naze Tower was built in 1720 to warn mariners of the West Rocks off shore. Today it's a museum. In years to come it will fall off the cliff due to coastal erosion by the sea.
Behind the Naze and town lie broad salt-marshes and islands, a paradise for bird-watchers.
The town has bungalows, chalets, caravans, a beach and an 800 ft long pier. There is safe bathing and the sea fishing is excellent.
