Visit Shipton under Wychwood Oxfordshire and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast, hotel or vacation rental accommodation provided by BedPosts members.
The village of Shipton under Wychwood in Oxfordshire is close to the tourist destination of Burford.
A fragment of the once great royal hunting forest of Wychwood overlooks the valley of the River Evenlode, and gives its name to the picturesque village Shipton-under-Wychwood. In medieval times the forest was as large and important as the New Forest. Henry I used to keep a menagerie there, and in Tudor times hunting parties used to carouse in Burford. The surviving woodland, the highest peak of which reaches 509 ft, is beautiful countryside.
Visit: church of St. Mary having 13th century tower; 15th century Shaven Crown Hotel.
