Middleton in Teesdale County Durham is an attractive town, set on the steep hillside above the River Tees, is an ideal centre for visiting the High Force and Caldron Snout waterfalls and the Durham Moors above them. From the late 17th century, Middleton was the centre of the district's lead mining, but most of the town's mining activity had ceased some 200 years later.
