Ledbury is a very pretty 17th century market house town on the western slopes of the Malvern hills in Herefordshire, greatly loved by poets. The town features cobbled streets and many well preserved timber framed buildings some of which date from the 17th Century.
John Masefield was born here and said that the Hereford scene had a profound influence on his work. The town is still as Masefield described it “pleasant to the sight, fair and half-timbered houses black and white”.
One of the most attractive buildings, inside and out, is the 16th century Feathers Inn, and there is an arcaded 17th century market hall supported on pillars of chestnut. Ledbury is almost equidistant from Hereford, Worcester and Gloucester, and is set among pastures and streams, making it a good base for walking the Malvern Hills. In the fields around Ledbury, tiny wild daffodils grow; and behind windbreak hedges are Herefordshire's extensive hop gardens.

Eastnor Castle (1½ miles east), built in 1815, contains good collections of pictures, armour and tapestries. The splendid park has many specimen trees, including one of the twelve mistletoe oaks in England.
